Revival in the Bible Conference

Revival in the Bible Conference is Scheduled for October 13,14, 15, 2009,

Heart Relationship with Our Savior
7:00 PM, at First American Baptist Church corner of Latouch & Northern Lights, Anchorage, Alaska.  Everyone is cordially invited to this "walk through the Bible" with Dr. Frank Fenby from Florida.  Brother Frank is chief instructor with the Alaska Bible Seminary in Bethel, Alaska.

The two hour gathering at First American Baptist Church will be an informal gathering with finger foods and drinks available.  The Conference will cover the following per Dr. Fenby:  "The Conference examines, in chronological order, many of the revivals and apparent revivals recorded in Scripture.

First, we will develop a working definition of revival. Then, starting in Genesis 4:26, we will step through the revival accounts. For each revival we will look at its historical context, what started the revival, and who were the people involved. Next, we will look at the external evidence for this revival, look for any positive lasting effects, determine if this was a true revival, and then seek to learn what we can from this historical revival about revivals today. At the end of the series, we will seek to produce a summary of learned about biblical revivals.

The sessions will be interactive. After a presentation of each revival, there will be an open discussion."

If anyone has any questions, contact Pastor Nicholson, at 240-8102.  Hope to see you there.

Synod 2009 Informational Report

Synod Decisions impact our Youth
Synod 2009 was attended by an Anchorage Moravian Church delegation
made up of Pastor's William Nicholson and Grant Shimanek, Delegate Carie Paton, and guest Elder Grace Smith.  Significantly for us, out of this meeting the AncMC humanitarian aid organiztion - "Ikayuun" is now supported for its creation and establishment.

Synod 2009 was held on February 2-6, 2009 at Bethel, Alaska. Close to 100 Church leaders from the 23 Moravian Churches and one fellowship attended this year’s business meeting.  Many of the annual reports were heard from APB, Alaska Bible Seminary, Provincial Women’s Fellowship Group, Provincial Youth, Provincial Board of Evangelism, Board of World Mission, Yupik Old Testament Translation, General Bible Conference, Alaska Christian College, Christian Education, Hospital Chaplain and Provincial Hymnal Committee.  On Monday, February 2, Pastor’s Nicholson and Shimanek attended a special Bishop and Presbyters meeting to deal with the Spiritual Feast concept.  New APB members were elected and installed by Bishop William Nicholson on February 4, 2009 at a Bethel Moravian Church evening service.  They are Pastor Lincoln Enoch, Lay Pastor Walter Larson and Lay Member Elsie Jimmy.  Bishop William Nicholson was elected to serve as World Wide Moravian Unity meeting to be held in England in July 27 – August 8, 2009.  The Old Testament Yupik translations are complete; however due to editing the publishing is expected to happen two or three years from now.

Church Delegate Carrie Paton submits her report to our general Church memberships (click on title above).  So too, here, Bishop Nicholson submits copy of a written statement on the Spiritual Feast recommendation that was brought to the floor.  These  are his observations and some theological and practical reflections on a renewal movement happening in the Alaska Moravian Church (AMC).  This bishop takes pains to assure the readers that his comments are not representative of any decision made by Synod 2009 nor the position of any other leader of the AMC.

Also Bishop Nicholson provides notes from a Bible Study he led in the Synod Healing Committee. This study deals with "brotherly love" ands a need for continued unity of our church body.  He also lists some of the healing issues identified by the Synod 2009 Healing Committee that need to be addressed by future synods.

Church Council Meeting Election Results

Annual Church Council Meeting Election Results

In an almost four hour meeting of the AncMC Council membership on January 18, 2009 several new leaders where elected.  They are as follows:

Elders Board:  Joe Pleasant, Grace Smith, and Nellie Kiunya.

Trustees Board:  Flora Demantle, Roy Roberts, Elena Franks

These leaders are prayerfully accepted by the general membership and will join the following currently serving members of the Elders Board - Fay Romer and Carrie Paton and Trustees Board members - Paul Kiunya Jr. and Carrie Anvil-Kiana.

All new leaders support the new purposes and mission statement of the Anchorage Moravian Church.  As set forth in the adoption of the November 2008 bylaws of the church these leaders agree to abide by the standard and practice of faith of the the Church.  In addition they agree to follow the highest standards of code of ethics in performance of their duties and will do their part to advance the policies of the church and the task as set forth in the annual plan.

As is true in any Moravian Church of the Alaska Province these new Church leaders agree to abide by the Alaska Moravian Church Book of Order, the Moravian Covenant for Christian Living and other enactments by Synods of the Alaska Moravian Church, which have priority over the functioning of this church.  In addition these leaders have agreed to a non-discrimination and anti-harrassment policy.

The pastor is thankful for these new leaders!  May all of the membership agree to pray for one anther and seek to work for our Savior, Jesus Christ in mutual respect, unity and love.

All new AncMC leaders will be installed in special installation ceremony on January 25, 2009, at 3 PM worship serve at Turnagain United Methodist Church.  Afterwards we will celebrate together in a special Potluck overseen by Server Group D.

Special Church Council Meeting Held

ANCHORAGE MORAVIAN SPECIAL CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING OF THE MEMBERSHIP on November 2, 2008 was an historic occasion.  In a majority vote the membership approved a new set of bylaws for use by the Anchorage Moravian Church which recently applied for 501c3 status.  In other action the General Membership also approved the AncMC Joint Board to come up with a new 501c3 organization which may serve independently of the Anchorage Moravian Church, but under its umbrella to meet the social and physical physical needs of our children, youth and elders and those choosing to live in the Anchorage area.  A plan for the humanitarian organization will be given for January 2009 Church Council approval.  One of the neat things that may comes out of this is the possibility of lease of a large enough facility to accommodate offices and multi-purpose area for state and federal faith-based initiative granting programs.  There is a possibility of the AncMC entering into a sublease on an economical basis to hold church programs and worship services in a new large enough building by autumn 2009.  Please offer any ideas you may have for this new organization and also pray, pray, and pray.  Thanksgiving goes out to The Rev. Grant Shimanek for helping the AncMC move forward into the 21st century to be a meaningful and vital force of good for the Lord Jesus.

Your Donated Dollars Will Begin to Do Something
The Anchorage Moravian Church Joint Board voted unanimously to set $50,000 as our new Church Building Fund Raising/Extravaganza Goal from September 7, 2008 to November 16, 2008.  As of Sunday September 28, 2008 over $6,000 has been raised.  Every member and friend of the Church is challenged to donate funds as an act of faith.  Shown is an AncMC conceptual drawing of a building similar to what we may be able to own.  We are shooting for special fund raising campaign this year and may solict state and federal funds so that our social service arm (creation currently in progress, but needs to be decided by a special Church Council meeting on November 2, 2008) is able to make a significant and positive impact upon those from rural Alaska moving into the southcentral area.
